Transcript of the video lesson:
Hey, this is Joel from worldspanishteacher.com. In this lesson, I’m going to tell you how you can say “as soon as” in Spanish.
I’ll give you 3 different ways to say it: en cuanto, apenas, and tan pronto como.
Ok, now remember that when you say “as soon as,” it triggers the subjunctive verb tense. If you’re not familiar with the subjunctive, you can go to verb conjugation website and see the subjunctive tense for any verb that you want.
As I give these example sentences, keep in mind that I’m going to use the subjunctive after the phrase.
“En cuanto tenga la oportunidad, voy a hablar con él” – “As soon as I have the opportunity, I’m going to speak with him”
“Apenas salga del trabajo, iré al banco para pagar la tarjeta de crédito” – “As soon as I leave work, I will go to the bank to pay the credit card”
“Vamos de vacaciones tan pronto como el gerente nos pague” – “We’re going on vacation as soon as the boss pays us”
Well I hope that these example sentences were helpful. I would recommend that you make your own example sentences using each of these phrases. Remember, use the subjunctive verb tense after the phrase.
