How to say ‘a lot’ in Spanish

Transcript of the video lesson:

Hey, this is Joel from WorldSpanishTeacher.com. In this lesson, I want to talk about a really useful word. The word is “un montón.”

Now, literally this means “a pile” but in Spanish it’s used basically the same as “a lot” or “a ton” is in English instead of “mucho.”

As far as I know, it’s used in almost every Spanish speaking country. It’s very common and if you use it, it’ll make you sound more natural. And another good thing about it is that it’s used in almost any context. So you don’t have to worry so much about saying it in the right context or the right situation.

So, I can say, “How many shirts do you have?” and then you could say, “A lot.” – “¿Cuántas camisas tienes? – Un montón.”

I can also say, “I like it a lot” – “Me gusta un montón” “Hay un montón de autos en la calle” – “There’s a lot of cars on the street”

“Hay un montón de gente aquí” – “There’s a lot of people here”

So, as you can see, it’s easy to use – just like saying “a lot” in English. Okay, well I hope you can start practicing this and using it in your Spanish conversations.
